Aquí
es Xalixco Centro Folklorico.
At Aquí es Xalixco Centro Folklorico, visitors have the chance
to see various aspects of Mexican culture. You will find out what
gives Mariachi instruments their unique sounds, watch Don Celso
make leather goods, and taste several varieties of tequila. As you
make your way through the tequila tour, you will find out why the
liquor can only be made in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
Los Arcos
This theater is in the southern end of downtown Puerto Vallarta.
There are performances every Sunday and on special holidays in the
open-air theater.
Art
Along the Malecón
The Malecón is a promenade in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Strolling
along, visitors will see various works of art. One of the most famous
pieces is a sculpture called "Nostalgia", which depicts
a couple gazing out at the bay. Another sculpture, "Boy on
the Seahorse," represents Puerto Vallarta.
Gringo
Gulch/Casa Kimberly
This neighborhood is full of former U.S. residents. Married actors
Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor owned a home here. Named "Casa
Kimberly," the home is now a bed and breakfast that offers
tours.
La
Iguana Mexican Fiesta
La Iguana Mexican Fiesta gives those who live north of the border
the opportunity to experience Mexican culture. The attraction offers
a Mexican buffet, an open bar with tequila, professional folk dancing,
and ranchero singing. Visitors can take home a piñata as
a souvenir. The Mexican Fiesta occurs on Thursdays and Sundays from
7 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.
El
Jardin Principal
Local bands play for crowds several times a week in this main garden
in the historical center of Puerto Vallarta.
Isla Del
Rio Cuale
Isla Del Rio Cuale is an outdoor market that has shops, restaurants,
and cafes. Make sure you also visit the Museo Arquedogico, which
has a collection of Indian artifacts.
Museo Galeria de Manuel Lepe
This
museum has the works of Manuel Lepe, who was the pioneer of "naïf"
painting. Lepe was known worldwide, and was named the "National
Painter of Mexico." Some of the most famous stars and world
leaders have collected his works. UNICEF bought the rights to his
painting, "Christmas Tree," and now uses it on their Christmas
cards. The museum holds some of Lepe's works, and his run by
daughter Marcella Lepe.
Nuevo Vallarta
The main draw to Nuevo Vallarta is a shopping center that is on
Costa Vallarta. The mall has more than 100 retail stores, and is
located next to the Paradise Village Resort.
Old
Vallarta
Old Vallarta is several streets full of cafes, crafts, and clothing.
Make sure you go into one of the sidewalk cafes and the pier at
the end of Francisca Rodriguez Street.
